Lorenzo E. Robertson photographs [graphic], circa 1897-1904.

Photographs taken by Lorenzo E. "Ren" Robertson that depict the Yukon Territory and Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush, circa 1897-1904. Robertson resided for a time in Dawson (now Dawson City), Yukon Territory, and many of the photos depict the city in its earliest days from 1898-circa 1904. Other photographs depict Dyea, Alaska; boat launching at Bennett, Yukon and on Lake Tagish; natives; gold mining and prospecting; the Koyukuk River; dog mushing in the Yukon; and Fairbanks, Alaska in 1904, where Robertson and his family moved to when they left Dawson. Many of the photographs were labeled by Robertson. A note accompanying the collection indicates that some of the photographs depict "a trip to Herschel Island in search of 'Lost Rucker Mine, '" though there is no information written on the photographs themselves to confirm this. Includes photographs of Robertson, his daughter Hazel, his wife Nancy (called "Nannie"), his brother John Robertson, Chicago newspaper cartoonist and adventurer Ildo Ramsdell, and others. Some of the photographs may have been taken by Nannie, who was herself a photographer.
